House Training a Maltese Puppy

The Maltese is a small breed of dog which has been known by a variety of names throughout the centuries. The body is compact with the length equaling the height. Adult Maltese range from roughly 5 to 12 lb (2.3 to 5.4 kg). They stand normally 7-10 inches. They are bred to be cuddly companion dogs, and thrive on love and attention and are extremely lively and playful.

Maltese an Indoor Dog: An important point that should be kept in mind is that these dogs are indoor dog. They are very suitable for those people who live in an apartment. The Maltese is very active within a house, and, preferring enclosed spaces, does very well with small yards. Some Maltese may occasionally be snappish with smaller children and should be supervised when playing, although socializing them at a young age will reduce this habit. They also adore humans, and prefer to stay near them.

Puppy Proof: you will want a puppy proof you bring your puppy home. Puppies are mostly curious and very over energetic. They try to run in explore and taste everything in your house. In this case you have to be careful. You need to remove all those things that are precious and are in range of your puppy. You can buy your new puppy a basket of its own toys. These kinds of puppies are very smart and they are protective about their stuff so it will not be a problem to loose stuff and buy it again and again for them. They can take a good care of it.

Grooming: These dogs have big long silk hair which need constant maintenance like brushing, drying, cleaning and it is very important to keep them away from flees. Their eyes should be washed daily to keep them away from stains. Moreover, these dogs enjoy when someone brushes their hair. And this may be the best time for you to bond with your new puppy. Give them a bath once in a weak but be careful that they don’t get chilly or get cold in any case. Dry them immediately after giving them a bath.

Veterinarian: A Maltese puppy needs a visit to the veterinarian quite often. They need a visit after every two months and need constant visits after every 6 months when they enter the second years of their lives. Other than this, every dog should be taken to a vet for a normal checkup after every three or four months.

First Day: It is up to you how you train your dog. You don’t want a dog to run all over the place, climb on your dining table, enter your kitchen; you are the one who should be responsible for it. You will have to tell your dog patiently. Don’t be harsh on them. After all they are just puppies and they need the same affection and care like any other toddler in this world will need.
