So you have been training your puppy for last three weeks or even for a longer period and turning on the light of your apartment you smell something fishy, your immediate reaction would be, in fact, should be fury! But with a little puppy with wide open eyes and innocent face, you surely would not want to punish him, so here are some tips to get your little pup tamed and trained like a good, disciplined and well-mannered doggie.
- Handle with Tolerance: Always remember that training requires patience, so don’t let go of it until you see your dog as the best pet of the world.
- Praise your puppy: Praising is the natural desire of every living being on earth. So praising your dog when he acts in a manner that you want will motivate him to get praised again.
- Realize your puppy is not a machine: If your puppy has littered inside the house, after all your efforts, don’t get furious. After all he is a living creature which can make mistakes not a computer program which will do as desired according to the encoding done. What you can do in such cases you can tell your dog that he is being a bad doggie by crying out loud or even your silence may prove to be a complete doze for him. But make sure he gets that. Moreover disinfect the littered area with a pet urine deodorizer or it will leave a scent that your puppy will pick up, and will end up going to the bathroom there again.
- Give your Puppy Attention: When you bring a puppy home and need to house train him, you should understand that it requires close attention and is a full-time job for the first few days. Try to arrange it for a weekend or whenever you can be at home for at least a couple of days.
- Make it a Punctual Doggie: By punctually feeding him and then taking him on scheduled timings, the puppy will be conditioned to the stimulus and will then ask for food when hungry and will know when to litter and where to litter.
- Realize they are Creatures of Habits: Dogs are creatures of habit, so make sure you follow a regular routine with your puppy.
- Realize the Age of your Pup: Like babies, puppies behave according to their age. It is good to have a puppy that is between one to six weeks, as it’s easy to train. But as mentioned before, they may behave in a way that is not a part of your plan. So, you should consult a vet to know the requirements of puppies at different stages of life.
- Hold on to Leash: When you take him outside to litter keep him on a leash and don’t encourage him to play. Just watch and wait. After he is done, he can be given some free time to play as a treat.
- Tell him he is Important: Love factor is the most important one when it comes to treating any living being, so tell your puppy verbally and physical gestures that he is important to you and give him proper attention.
